Granta unveils Black Wasp Shahed interceptor

Lithuanian company Granta Autonomy unveiled Black Wasp, a roughly 4 kg autonomous interceptor drone designed to destroy Shahed-class attack drones, loitering munitions and other aerial threats. The VTOL system is advertised with a 500 g warhead, 160 km/h cruise speed, 320 km/h maximum speed, 20 km one-way intercept range or 40 km with return, and operations up to 7,000 m MSL. Granta says the interceptor uses AI/ML flight control, computer-vision terminal guidance, GNSS-resilient navigation and S-band/C-band datalinks, and can receive targeting telemetry from compatible NATO radars.

The launch reflects the accelerating search for cheaper, scalable interceptors to rebalance the economics of defending against long-range one-way attack drones.

NRL tests laser power and drone defense

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Boeing and the Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center demonstrated a directed-energy platform that wirelessly delivered power across an airfield in near-whiteout snow, shifted to defeat a simulated drone threat, then resumed power delivery. The system uses line-of-sight infrared or near-infrared laser power beaming to photovoltaic receivers, with the same beam-control precision supporting counter-drone tracking. NRL said the next step is user feedback from Marines, Soldiers and Sailors, while noting line-of-sight limits and degraded performance risks in fog, rain, smoke, dust and snow.
