Bipartisan AI Kill Switch Act Introduced

U.S. Representatives Ted Lieu and Nathaniel Moran have introduced the bipartisan AI Kill Switch Act, which would require certain powerful AI developers to maintain capabilities to throttle, suspend, or shut down their systems. The proposal would authorize the Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with Commerce and intelligence officials, to order graduated interventions after serious AI-related incidents. It would also establish incident-reporting, telemetry-preservation, and compliance-review requirements, moving frontier-AI safety policy toward enforceable operational controls.
