The Story

The EU Digital Omnibus on AI entered into force on 27 July 2026, revising the implementation schedule for the EU AI Act. It postpones obligations for stand-alone high-risk AI systems to 2 December 2027 and for certain product-integrated systems to 2 August 2028, while transparency duties for AI-user interaction and new generative systems continue from 2 August 2026. The amendments also add prohibitions targeting non-consensual intimate imagery and AI-generated child sexual abuse material, expand regulatory support, and strengthen selected oversight arrangements. The staggered timetable gives affected organizations more preparation time but leaves immediate disclosure, labelling, and governance requirements in place.
