Schellman’s survey of 525 U.S.-based professionals finds that enterprise investment and confidence in AI governance exceed the maturity of operational programs. While 90% of respondents report governance funding and 74% believe they could pass an AI compliance audit, only 27% characterize their programs as fully mature. The gaps are especially consequential as organizations test and deploy AI agents, increasing the need for formal policies, incident response, continuous oversight, and accountability.
