Trump Expands Ratepayer Pledge for Data Centers

President Donald Trump is promoting an expanded voluntary Ratepayer Protection Pledge that asks AI data center developers, technology companies, utilities, and participating states to prevent infrastructure costs from being shifted to household and small-business electricity customers. The White House says 23 governors and nearly 200 companies have joined, with major technology firms committing in principle to fund generation, transmission, and other power needs associated with their facilities. The initiative has no binding enforcement mechanism, while questions remain over whether its commitments can offset rapid load growth and local concerns about electricity prices, water use, noise, land use, and emissions.
