Chesterfield Launches Emergency Drone Program

Chesterfield County, Virginia, has launched a Drones as First Responders program that sends human-piloted drones from rooftop docking stations to selected high-priority emergencies before ground units arrive. The drones are intended to provide police, fire, and EMS personnel with early scene intelligence for incidents including active threats, fires, robberies, and missing-person cases. County policy limits use to priority calls, prohibits weapons, routine surveillance, and AI aircraft control, and includes public reporting and video-retention measures.
