The Story

Producer Daniel Lanois has revisited his work with Bob Dylan on Oh Mercy and Time Out of Mind while promoting his instrumental album Belladonna Nocturne. He said his effort to keep Oh Mercy focused on Dylan's own playing led to the well-known smashed-dobro incident, and he regretted helping create doubts that may have contributed to "Series of Dreams" being omitted. Lanois also criticized later remixes of Time Out of Mind, arguing that they diminished the atmosphere of the original 1997 production.
