Coupang Ordered to Compensate Data-Breach Victims

South Korea's Consumer Dispute Settlement Commission has proposed that Coupang pay 100,000 won in cash or store credit to each of 50 consumers participating in mediation over a major personal-data breach. The proposal cites the sensitivity of exposed data, including addresses, apartment entry information and order histories, as well as possible misuse. Coupang must respond within 15 days; acceptance could give the settlement court-equivalent effect and may inform compensation for other affected customers. The case follows a record privacy fine that has also raised questions about whether mandatory cyber-insurance coverage is adequate for large breaches.
