Seoul Uses AI Cameras To Detect Suicide Attempts

Seoul has operated AI-enabled cameras on 17 Han River bridges since 2021 to flag behavior associated with possible suicide attempts and alert responders. Officials say the nearly 900-camera system identified more than 1,200 incidents last year and has coincided with reported rescue rates above 99 percent, but clinicians and technology developers stress that surveillance cannot prevent repeat attempts or replace mental-health care.
