UK Inquiry Finds Afghan Relocation Data Breach Foreseeable image

The Commons Defence Committee found that a Ministry of Defence data breach affecting more than 18,500 Afghan relocation applicants was a foreseeable systemic failure, citing weak procedures, training, tools and accountability. The breach was concealed under a superinjunction after its discovery in 2023 and was linked to secret evacuation arrangements for affected families. The inquiry also found serious defects in decisions on former Afghan special forces applicants, with 884 refusals overturned after a review, while thousands of eligible people still awaited relocation.
