Climate change intensified deadly West Africa floods
A new World Weather Attribution assessment reported via UN Ghana finds human-induced climate change substantially intensified the three-day rainfall that caused June flooding in Ghana, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. The floods killed nearly 100 people; historical records show rainfall intensity increases of up to 23%, while models estimate at least a 4% increase. Scientists said the event is now about five times more likely than under pre-industrial climate conditions, with similar episodes expected every two to four years.
