Springfield City Utilities Completes 5-Megawatt Zinc Battery System

Springfield City Utilities has completed a 5-megawatt zinc battery energy storage system near the Blackman Water Treatment Plant in Springfield, Missouri. The facility is entering final commissioning and is expected to operate in August, charging during lower-demand periods and supplying electricity for up to six hours during peak demand. It is part of a broader utility program to increase local capacity, including a planned 31-megawatt battery project and new natural-gas turbines.
