Trump administration weighs drone company funding

Reuters reported that the Trump administration is in talks to fund U.S. drone companies, including Unusual Machines, Neros and possibly Performance Drone Works. The discussions involve the Pentagon and the Office of Strategic Capital and could use debt-and-equity structures that might give the government ownership stakes. Unusual Machines, which counts Donald Trump Jr. as an adviser, and other U.S. drone names rose in trading after the report, underscoring investor sensitivity to federal support.

Why it matters

Direct federal backing could reshape the domestic drone industrial base and create new ownership and conflict-of-interest questions.

YNET

Hezbollah FPV drone threat deepens in north Israel

ynet and Israel Hayom reported that Hezbollah's drone campaign remains a lethal problem on Israel's northern front after the April 16 Lebanon ceasefire. Israel said Sgt. Rotem Yanai was killed by an FPV strike on the northern border inside Israeli territory, and the reports said 12 soldiers and civilians have been killed on the front since the ceasefire, eight by explosive drones. Former Menashe Brigade commander Oren Zini warned the threat could reach central cities such as Kfar Saba, while Hezbollah is said to be launching 10 to 15 explosive drones a day and improving swarm and nighttime tactics.

Why it matters

The reports suggest the drone threat is not contained to the border zone and is forcing Israel to adapt defenses and doctrine.

BUSINESS INSIDER

Russia adds electronic defenses to attack drones

Business Insider reported that Ukraine has detected Russian Shahed-style attack drones fitted with rear-mounted electronic warfare suppressors meant to jam Ukrainian interceptor drones. Ukraine's first deputy defense minister, Oleksiy Vyskub, said the systems have been seen in recent strikes, while Ukrainian intelligence says Russia is also fielding the faster jet-powered Geran-4 and adding rear-facing cameras and air-to-air missiles to some drones. The changes show Moscow is still iterating quickly in the drone-versus-interceptor race.

Why it matters

If the countermeasures work, they could weaken one of Ukraine's cheapest and most scalable air-defense tools.
