Schools Pilot Drones to Respond to Active Shooters

Schools in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado are beginning or planning pilots of Campus Guardian Angel drones designed to respond rapidly to active-shooter alarms. Florida has added $564,500 to the program, bringing reported state support above $1.1 million over two years, while other schools are pursuing pilots through state or local funding. The remotely piloted systems use cameras, lights, sirens, pepper spray devices, and possible physical impact to delay a suspected attacker until police arrive. Supporters cite faster response times, while critics question misidentification, legal and ethical issues, and performance in an actual attack.
